Is your team underperforming?

As a business owner, it can be very easy to be borderline obsessed with your team’s productivity and performance. You might question whether they are being productive enough…

You might wonder when you’re going to get a response to your email/text/slack/voxxer message minutes after you send it… or do you worry about whether you gave clear enough instructions, or have a million other worries around whether you did enough, gave enough, taught enough for your team to be productive and get their job done.

This is such a familiar scenario for a lot of my clients who are concerned about the support they’re getting from their team members.

If you have these worries, you’re not alone… and you’re also NOT worried about performance.


You are worried about trust. And you likely don’t trust your team.

If this doesn’t sound like it fits the bill, take a moment to ask yourself WHY.

Why are you so focused on your team’s responses? WHY are you so focused on what else you can do to support them?

Be honest with yourself about the answers here – I’m willing to bet that your reasons for being so focused on what your team is doing, how they’re doing it, and when they doing it, boils down to:

– You don’t know where anyone stands
– Tasks/projects seem stalled or are forgotten altogether

If you find yourself thinking these things about your team – surprise, surprise – these are trust issues.

Take a step back from obsessing about whether your team is performing (or underperforming) and think about whether you’ve set them up to successfully support you.

– Do they know what your communication expectations are?
– Do they know how to execute the tasks to your specifications?

If you don’t have the structure in place to clearly answer these questions, your leadership is underperforming.
