Hi guys, Diane here. I’m in San Francisco for the next couple of weeks and I’ve been getting this question a lot: “Why isn’t my business growing?” “Why am I not where I want to be?” – or other variations of the question. It usually revolves around wanting to be in X place or making X dollars in revenue but I can’t seem to get any traction. “I’m trying all of these things and I’m not sure if they’re working or if they will work.”
How well are you doing against your competition? I was recently at a business owner’s networking event that was covering this topic. And it always strikes me as a little bit odd when you see a lot of small business owners talking about operational excellence because it’s usually a topic that’s reserved for larger, more mature corporations. In other words, companies that are interested in improving their processes and focused on BPM, going lean, and providing more agile approaches within their business.

Strategies are what guide the decisions you make as a business owner. We are 100% in charge of our businesses, and we’re often inundated with options. Infinite options for what we can do, what we can invest in, and where we focus our attention. Strategies become key because they clarify what we are trying to accomplish and are a tool for guiding our decisions.
